This course seeks to provide social work students with the skills to provide counselling to individuals and families. The course builds on a problem-management and an opportunity-development approach to helping. The course provides an understanding of the basic counselling skills outlines the major theoretical approaches to practice; examines the values and ethical precepts of counselling and teaches the skills necessary for effective counselling practice with individuals and families.
